Deviousness |
This girl is super cute. And I love how there's a mischievous, playful hint to her personality, too. In the full body shot, she's got a cute smirk on her face, but her kinda restless pose and the way her attention is focused on something off to the side makes me think she's trying hard to look like she's being good and watching and waiting for someone to walk away so she can get into some trouble.
Again, I like how you do a good job of translating these different emotions through a single character. I think sometimes it can be easy to end up illustrating different emotions as disjointed, separate characters/personalities in these exercises, but you don't compromise core character traits to illustrate the different emotions.
For example,, her happy, bored, silly and mischievous (my favorite!) expressions all fit with a playful, impish younger girl. Her happy smile is cute, but there's a playful hint of personality, her silly expression fits my idea of her perfectly, her bored expression is a little silly, too, and makes me think that she's much rather be running around and putting frogs in her mom's purse. The mischievous grin makes me hear her snickering as some prank forms in her mind. But then you have emotions that break with the upbeat, playful personality, like angry. But! Her angry face feels like a pouty, frustrated way a girl who doesn't like having her pranks foiled would wear. It's not a fuming, spitting, seething anger that you might find in a serial killer or a supervillian; it illustrates the emotion beautifully and stays true and consistent with the character and her personality as a whole.
I love all of the expressions. They're playful, they're lively and animated, and they make me feel and identify with her in each of them. I smile seeing her smile, my shoulder slump seeing her cry in "sad," and I want to want to nudge her and suggest she throw a water balloon at the teacher in "bored." You did an AMAZING job bringing this character to life and showcasing a bunch of different moods, all really strongly and all very convincing and lifelike. Awesome job. : )
